Development of Ramappa Circuit and Somasila Retreat under SASCI Scheme

The Government of India has approved development loans for the Ramappa Circuit and Somasila Retreat in Telangana under the Special Assistance to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. The Ramappa Circuit includes Ramappa Temple, Kota Gullu Temple, and the lakefront development of Ghanpur village. Meanwhile, the Somasila Retreat aims to promote wellness and spiritual tourism by establishing facilities such as an organic café and an interpretation center to highlight the local culture and environment.

Ramappa Temple (Rudreswara Temple)

Location and Recognition

The Ramappa Temple, located in Palampet, Telangana, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Historical and Cultural Significance

Constructed in the 13th century during the Kakatiya dynasty under the reign of Ganapati Deva, it is a Sivalayam dedicated to Lord Ramalingeswara. The temple reflects the unique architectural and cultural heritage of the Kakatiya dynasty.

Architectural Features

The temple stands on a 6-feet-high star-shaped platform and features intricate carvings on its walls, ceilings, and pillars. Its foundation is made of red sandstone, with basalt pillars and a white gopuram constructed from lightweight floating bricks, a technique demonstrating advanced engineering.

Ghanpur Temples (Kota Gullu)

Location and Period

The Ghanpur Temples, also known as Kota Gullu, are situated in Ghanpur, Telangana, and were constructed during the late 12th and early 13th centuries.

Structure and Sculptural Art

The temple complex consists of over 20 temples enclosed within a fortified brick wall. The main shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temples are adorned with intricate sculptures depicting mythical figures, including Gaja-Kesari and floral patterns, showcasing the artistic excellence of the Kakatiya era.
