One nation one election and its advantage

Published On:

"ONE NATION, ONE Election " implies the simultaneous elections for the state and the state-based legislative organizations. The important impact on the democracy analysis goes as follows:

Potential benefits:

-All reduction of election costs and effective use of resources

-Draws the work violations by management and development

-The higher participation rate of consecutive voting

-A decrease in the impact of money and crime elements in many elections

Serious issues:

-In the federal system and align national elections with nationwide polls

-You can have national matters in relation to local/ government issues

-Relieve your duties as the voters will be able to voice opposition to the midterm election

-The constitutional issue in case of simultaneous poll

This implementation requires a constitutional important correction and political consensus. Even though it offers administrative efficiency, it presents substantial challenges to India's federal democratic structure and regional political representation.

Accountability of judges

Key challenges in judicial accountability:

1. Limited oversight mechanisms

- No external body to investigate misconduct

- Impeachment process rarely used

- Internal complaint handling lacks transparency

2. Constitutional barriers

- Judges protected from criticism under contempt powers

- Independence of judiciary vs accountability balance

- Lack of parliamentary control

3. System flaws

- Collegium system is not transparent

- Lagging behind creates pressure and impacts quality

- Post-retirement appointments create conflicts

Proposed solutions:

1. Structural changes

- National Commission of Judicial Control

- Performance evaluation system transparent

- Code of conduct clear and applied

2. Procedural reforms

- Time limits for cases

- Periodic review of court performance

- Court statistics open to the public

3. Institutional reforms

- Cooling off period for appointments post-retirement

- Collegium reformed with external members

- Internal ethics committee strengthened

Implementation calls for constitutional amendments and political consensus but without jeopardizing judicial independence. To be effective, there has to be a delicate balance between accountability and judicial autonomy.
