Published On:

Important Issues

1. Trade Pressures

Trump imposed tariffs on Indian sword and aluminum, and India retaliated with tariffs on U.S. products.

Impact: Trade deficit enterprises and query in bilateral trade.

2. H- 1B Visa Restrictions

Trump hardened H- 1B visa rules, impacted Indian IT companies and professionals

Impact-The U.S. India high tech and gift exchange is strained; reduced openings for Indian professionals.

3.Defense and Strategic Relations

While the two worked hard to intensify defense ties, the "America First" policy of Trump further limited deeper security cooperation.

Effect:-Uneven growth in defense agreements such as COMCASA and LEMOA .

4. Climate and Environmental Policy

• The withdrawal of Trump from the Paris Agreement became a blow to enterprises since India had promised climate claims on this agreement.

Effects:-  Induced cooperation over environment-related issues and, as a result, India assumed an independent position.

Impact

•commercial Trade tensions slowed bilateral growth, but defense deals and energy cooperation were also increasing.

•Security: Cooperation on defense and security, not least on fighting terrorism, was growing, but firms spoke of a more transactional U.S. attitude.

•Politics: The unpredictability of Trump was questionable, but common interests, such as counter China, compelled both parties closer in the space of time.

 Recommendations

1.Improving Trade Facilitation Arrangements :-

Improve trade facilitation regimes to minimize tariff barriers as well as issues related to access to requests.

2. Visa and Immigration Policy Reform

Strive for more transparent, stable, and mutually beneficial visa programs particularly for avowed professionals.

3. Cooperation on Climate Change Issues

- But keep engaging on climate pretensions despite the pull out of the US from the Paris Agreement, fastening on renewable energy and technology sharing.

By focusing on these outcomes both countries can continue to make a strong cooperation while ridding the headaches that emerged during the Trump period.
