The Indian Air Force (IAF) is gearing up for its largest multilateral military exercise 'Tarang Shakti' to be held in August and September 2024. This historic event reflects India's dedication to promoting international defense relations and military partnership.
purpose
The objective of 'Tarang Shakti' is to enhance cooperation and teamwork among the participating nations through a series of complex air exercises and missions. The exercise is an important step in India's military diplomacy, designed to promote better understanding and collaborative efficiency between the countries.
Practice steps
First Phase (August 6-14, 2024) Sulur, Tamil Nadu
Activities:
The initial phase will include joint operations such as air maneuvers, air-to-air refueling and strategic airlift operations.
The participant
Countries like Germany, France, Spain, and the UK will participate in this phase.
Second Phase (August 29-September 14, 2024) - Jodhpur, Rajasthan
Activities:
The second phase will focus on advanced scenarios including simulated combat missions and electronic warfare exercises.
The participant
Australia, Bangladesh, Greece, Singapore, UAE, and America will participate in this phase.
If seen, around 30 of the 51 invited countries will participate, including major players like the US, UK, and Germany. Notably, traditional defense partners Russia and Israel will not participate in this year's exercise.
Demonstration of India's military capabilities
The exercise will also serve as a platform to showcase India's military equipment, including the LCA Tejas and Rafale jets, signifying the nation's commitment to 'self-reliance' (self-reliance) in defence.
Defense Industrial Expo
A defense industrial expo will be held to promote Indian defense innovations alongside the military exercise. The objective of the event is to facilitate partnerships between established companies and startups, thereby boosting India's defense manufacturing capabilities.
Marine components
Apart from air exercises, 'Tarang Shakti' includes an annual naval component, which aims to enhance the strength and security of the Navy at sea. This maritime exercise launched in 2019 includes –
Submarine warfare
Activities include locating and engaging enemy submarines.
Monitor and collect information
Monitoring and data collection in marine areas.
Emergency assistance
Assisting during maritime emergencies.
